2008 McDermott Cue of the Year

The McDermott Cue of the Year is one of the most sought after pool sticks you can find anyplace. McDermott takes a lot of pride in selecting their cue of the year, and they take a lot of time producing and designing it as well. It's a chance for them to really showcase what they can do, and to really please all of their fans and collectors with a very special pool cue.

The 2008 McDermott Cue of the Year is a beautiful pool cue of the finest quality. I liked it so much, I had to place a picture of it on the top of the site. Up there in the banner you can see the butt of the McDermott 2008 Cue of the Year. Stunning isn't it? Only 50 of them were produced.

The official name is the M89B 2008 Cue of the Year Special Edition. This stick is absolutely phenomenal, and it's hard not to fall in love with it. It features over 200 inlays, including 52 abalone inlays, and is made from Birdseye maple that McDermott has kept in its private reserve for over 20 years. They are breaking out the big guns for the cue of the year, that's for sure.

This isn't just a handcrafted pool cue, this is a work of art. It features abalone, brass, and recon ebony inlays in intricate and stunning designs. These cues are specially and exclusively released by Jim McDermott himself, and each one has a signature on the forearm, as well as a signed certificate of authenticity numbered 1 to 50. This is the second in a series of McDermott Cue of the Year limited edition cues.

Do you want some more specifics on the 2008 McDermott Cue of the Year? How about a hand numbering of 1-50, over 200 inlays, including 52 abalone inlays and 12 abalone McDermott "Clover" inlays, 18 green burl inlays, 6 abalone, green burl and recon ebony points, an embossed Italian leather wrap, stainless joint, 12 German brass rings and of course the McDermott I-Shaft.

Wow, what else can be said! This thing speaks for itself, and at a suggested retail value between $1,250 and $1,799, it will set you back (and who knows how much it would go for on auction!) But that's to be expected, and it will certainly prove its value over time. You can't just go down to some billiards shop and pick up a pool cue like this. Any collector of limited edition pool cues should gobble this one up.

This is one of the many reasons I am such a huge fan of McDermott cues, they continue to deliver the goods like this with limited editions and collectibles. The 2008 McDermott Cue of the Year is one to remember, and I'm sure they will continue to outdo themselves again the next time around.
